Paul Harrill is a filmmaker. He lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia.
Paul’s short films include Gina, An Actress, Age 29, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and won the Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking. Later festival screenings included Clermont-Ferrand, Rotterdam, and MoMA’s New Directors/New Films, among others.
His latest film is Quick Feet, Soft Hands, a co-production with the Independent Television Service. The film stars Greta Gerwig (The Duplass Brothers’ Baghead) and Jason Von Stein. Quick Feet, Soft Hands had its World Premiere in competition at the Nashville Film Festival in April 2008 and has screened on public television across the country.
Paul has been an Artist-in-Residence at the University of Tennessee and a fellow of The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Self-Reliant Film, Paul’s weblog, champions small-crew, low-budget, and regional filmmaking.
A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Paul received his Master of Fine Arts in Film & Media Arts from Temple University in Philadelphia. He has taught courses in Cinema Production at Virginia Tech since August 2006.
