		<description>This is coincidence.  A friend of mine and I are on a Yang kick at the moment (sharing time with Rivette, whom Jonathan Rosenbaum also champions).  And shortly before Altman died, I was on an Altman kick.  I hope this is not a trend.  Good filmmakers beware of what I watch!  Seriously though, very sad...and too young.  I felt that Yang was just beginning to show us what he could do as a filmmaker.

I have been hunting for THAT DAY ON THE BEACH.  Anyone?  Paul, you will be seeing TAIPEI STORY very soon...no worries.</description>

I still have yet to see A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY. I know it&#039;s available on supperhappyfun.com, but I&#039;ve been holding out for an archival screening or - in light of YI YI - a Criterion release. If the latter does eventually happen, it&#039;s even more tragic that Yang won&#039;t be around to contribute.

What a wise, patient, tender filmmaker. He will be missed.</description>
